Skincare Steps: Micellar Water
You've probably heard of micellar water by now. And chances are, you wondered why you should be paying for water for your skin.
Let's start with figuring out what micellar water actually is. Micellar water is made up of micelles, which are tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules, which are suspended in soft water. Micelles are attracted to oil and dirt on your face, so they're able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin.
We've rounded up some ways to use micellar water in your beauty routine!
1. To Remove Makeup
Its 3 am and you're not exactly in the right head space to go through your whole entire face routine, but you have layers upon layers of different products on your face that were strategically applied in an attempt to look less tired. You can't sleep in your makeup, that's a major faux-pas. You'll wake up with bright red, painful bumps on your face because of the clogged pores. (Been there, done that, never going back.) So, whip out your magic micellar water, saturate a cotton pad with it, and in a matter of seconds, you'll have a clean, dewy face and you can pass out with a clean conscience (at least about your skin). No rising required.
2. To Double Cleanse
Do you ever get those annoying whiteheads on your face that seem to be coming back no matter how much you squeeze and squeeze? Sometimes, getting rid of them is a matter of double cleansing. So, wash your face with your cleanser and water, exfoliate, and then finish off the cleansing bit of your routine with some micellar water. (No rising required).
3. To Neutralize the Harsh Chemicals in Your Tapwater
If you live somewhere like New York, you probably have great tap water that is okay for your skin. But if you live somewhere like Paris, where tap water is harsh, using micellar water instead of tap water as your cleanser could do waters for sensitive skin. You can substitute the micellar water for your cleanser, or you could just balance your pH levels with it after your regular cleansing routine. (No rising required).
After sweating and maybe even touching your skin with dirty gym fingers, use micellar water to make sure your workout doesn't lead to a breakout.
5. While Traveling
It's a fact that the dry air circulation and the dirty airplane where people all over the world of different levels of cleanliness touch exactly what you touch (are you sure that man washed his hands after using the bathroom?) severely fuck up your skin. Get a little travel sized bottle of micellar water and try to soothe and cleanse your skin while you're in the sky (or after).
Before we show you our TOC HQ faves, remember to choose the right micellar water for your skintype. For example, if you have dry skin, get the micellar water for dry skin. Oily skin? Oily skin micellar water. Waterproof makeup lover? Get one that makes sure all your waterproof makeup is gone from your skin.
